There was a moment, in the raw and silent aftermath of losing our baby in February, when words ceased to exist. There was no language for that kind of pain. But there was a muffin. My husband brought it to me one morning, warm from the oven. It wasn’t just a baked good; it was a tangible, crumbly, sweet piece of his love when neither of us knew what to say or do. That single muffin became a ritual. It was a reason for him to get up and care, and for me to take a bite, to physically put something good into a body that felt like it had failed.
